The pressed form is known as “zhuan,” which translates to “brick.” Accordingly, Cha Zhuan is a brick-shaped tea, weighing 250 grams. Classic and traditional, it embodies not only its external appearance and raw material but also, of course, its taste and aroma. Cha Zhuan is produced in Yunnan Province, the birthplace of tea in China, where Camellia Sinensis, or the Chinese Tea plant (the botanical name for tea), was first discovered.<\/p>\n

Cha Zhuan belongs to the category of post-fermented Shu Puer teas, meaning “ripe,” as opposed to “sheng,” meaning “raw.” Shu Puer Cha Zhuan is a tea that has undergone accelerated fermentation to become “ripe.” Fermentation occurs under the action of Aspergillus acidus, a fungus of the genus Aspergillus. These microorganisms significantly alter the chemical composition and taste qualities of the tea, which is why it is valued. To achieve this, the withered, rolled, and steamed tea is piled and covered with damp cloths, where it will oxidize for 60 days.<\/p>\n
