Huangshan Maofeng tea originates from the Huangshan Mountains (Yellow Mountains). The word “Mao” in its name means “fur” or “hair”, and the word “Feng” means “mountain peak”. The tea got its name because it has silver-white hairs and a bud shaped like a mountain peak. This distinctive feature was noted already during the Qing Dynasty, and after the founding of New China, the tea was included in the top ten famous teas of China.<\/p>\n
The unique environment of the Huangshan Mountains creates favorable conditions for the special quality of Huangshan Maofeng.<\/p>\n
Currently, Huangshan Maofeng is produced at both foothills of the Huangshan Mountains, including Huizhou County of Huangshan City, Huangshan County, Shexian County, Xiong County and Yixian County. These places with towering peaks, deep valleys, steep cliffs, babbling streams and dense forests are ideal for growing tea. The climate in these places is mild, the average annual temperature is 15-16 degrees, heavy rainfall. The layer of mountain loess, allowing water to penetrate, with a high content of organic matter, is ideal for the growth of tea plants. In such favorable conditions, tea bushes grow vigorously, release soft and tender strong buds, and form dense juicy tea leaves that give off aroma and taste to the end when brewing.<\/p>\n
When Maofeng is brewed correctly, you can see a misty haze and feel a delicious aroma. When infused, the buds and leaves stand, hanging vertically in the infusion and later slowly fall. When the tea cools down, the aroma still lingers, hence the saying that “Huangshan Maofeng pleases with a cold aroma” and also “Huangshan Maofeng is the color of a cicada’s wing, and looks like a lotus sultan.” It has an extremely attractive taste, with melon notes. It can be brewed 5 or 6 times – and the aroma will still remain!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
