First, an interesting position – not a reason to give up your favorite drink. If, before pregnancy, a mom-to-be used to consume puerhthen it is not worth giving it up completely. It is important to know the measure, of course, and listen to your body, as everything is individual (remember this).

During pregnancy, it’s very important to consume enough fluids (this is usually more than you’ve been drinking before). Not just water. Drinking enough fluids also includes other beverages, including tea.
Tea contains a huge number of useful elements. Scientists have counted more than three hundred(!) components (these are vitamins, micro- and macronutrients, antioxidants and nutrients).

  • Antioxidants strengthen the immune system and protect against colds, prevent cell damage and block infections of all kinds.
  • Micronutrients normalize the level of cholesterol in the blood. They also improve digestion, remove toxins from the body.
  • The fluoride in tea gives hardness to the teeth and calcium to the bones.

So, tea is beneficial for moms-to-be. It is important what kind of tea it is (its variety and quality), the quality of water and proper brewing.

Caffeine moments

The main thing to consider is caffeine. This is an alkaloid that causes excitation of the nervous system, affects the blood pressure and cardiovascular system (not only mom, but also the baby).
Remember that the maximum amount of caffeine is contained exactly in green tea! And be careful with it. Doctors recommend that pregnant women drink green tea due to the presence of antioxidants and useful trace elements (calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc) in the chemical composition of the leaves. But always remember about caffeine!

What kind of tea we recommend drinking for pregnant women

1) White tea. It is also rich in antioxidants (by the way, it is in the white tea the most of them) and useful microelements, but it does not have as much caffeine as green tea. Therefore, white tea is #1 for expectant moms.
2) Lightly fermented oolong. These are Taiwanese and South Fujian oolongs. In addition to useful substances, these teas have a record number of essential oils. Therefore, tea drinking with oolongs always turns into a kind of relaxation aromatherapy (and this is also very useful for expectant mothers).
And also:
3) tea should not be too strong (but with proper brewing this point is excluded);
4) tea should be of proven quality;
5) tea without artificial additives and flavorings.

Dear future moms, drink good tea and give yourself pleasant minutes of peace and quiet (because, perhaps, these minutes will soon become less).
