Feng Huang Dan Cong – A Magnificent Representative of Dan Congs The main type of Guangdong Oolong tea is called Feng Huang Dan Cong. The term “Dan Cong” translates to “single bush.” In the Phoenix Mountains of Guangdong, the Camellia sinensis (tea bush or tree) grows to the size of standalone trees, reaching up to 10 meters in height.

The classic range of Dan Congs consists of the so-called “Shi Xiang Shi Shu,” which means “Ten Aromas – Ten Trees.” These teas differ in leaf color and aroma shade, determined by the different tree species. However, the raw material is processed using a unified technology.

Unlike the Anxi processing methods, the leaves are roasted slightly more and are not rolled into balls but remain open. The technological process involves multiple drying (heating) sessions of the tea in straw baskets over charcoal throughout the year.
